I’ve been thinking about attending a Starting Line event near me and then going to a few Autocross events with my new Buick Regal GS. I’m sure it will be incredibly fun. But is it a bad idea to take such a new and nice car?

I would, but Ive also taken my newish BMW off-road so I’m not the right person to ask.

Cars are meant to be driven, so why not drive it fun?

I think the proper response here is “hell yeah!”

Yes, just be careful though. Damage to my cars during autocross hasn’t come from running on the course, but it has from lazy jackasses in grid.

Once past the break-in period of your choosing, then do it. Be aware that you will beat up your tires, although a few runs won’t do too much. I waited half a season due to timing, but also to make sure that I didn’t have any big warranty issues appear early on that I didn’t want to attribute to autocross.

I saw a guy bring a just-broken-in M2 to rallycross last year, so yes definitely bring the GS to autocross. If you haven’t been, you might be surprised to see how many new cars are there. Sure there will likely be a ton of S2000's and old Miatas, but you’ll likely also see some brand new Mustangs and BRZ’s. Just make sure that brake issue that you had is sorted out!

Do it. That was one of the first stops for my new to me S4 back a few years when I first purchased it. Great way to explore the handling limits without much risk of major damage.
